my studio
I am a children’s book author/illustrator, a printmaker and a painter.
Art finds the mystery in the everyday and can turn the most mundane into magic. I discovered this while living in Alaska. The wildness and the many fantastical natural phenomenon became a perfect backdrop for writing and illustrating children’s books.
I also make hand-made books. My love of comics began as a kid creating cartoon strips of everyday occurrences in rural Pennsylvania, from praying mantis and water moccasins to adventures in the woods. I tell stories in an autobio comic format. They are graphic narratives, part autobiographical, part fiction through the eyes of my character, Milly. The books are hand-bound limited editions with lino block printed covers.
I am exploring linoleum block printmaking techniques using a combination press. As a painter my images are narrative, and stylized yet representational, steeped in color. I use watercolor and acrylic to create dream-like imagined worlds, layered with personal symbols with themes from nature, and plants with mystical powers.
I live in the beautiful PNW where I play music, grow berries and spend time with my family.
