I am a children’s book author/illustrator, a printmaker and a painter.
Art finds the mystery in the everyday and can make the mundane magic. Living in Alaska with the splendor of nature and its many fantastical phenomenons became a perfect backdrop for writing and illustrating children’s books. I also make hand-made books. As a kid I created comic strips of everyday occurrences in rural Pennsylvania, from praying mantis and water moccasins to adventures in the woods. Autobio comix tell stories with a graphic narrative form, part autobiographical, part fiction through the eyes of my character, Milly. The books are hand-made with lino block printed covers, and hand bound as limited editions.
As a painter my images are narrative, and stylized yet representational, steeped in color, in dream-like imagined worlds, exploring themes from nature, plants with mystical powers, and layered with personal symbols.
